Report on Business Trip to the U.S. (1) Vegetable Growers

This is the first of three reports on our staff’s one-week business trip to the United States in September. In this first article, I would like to introduce the contents of our visit to a vegetable farm, especially a broccoli farm.

Visiting a broccoli farm. Problems with quality deterioration due to high-temperature damage in summer.

During this business trip, we visited several farmers who grow a wide variety of crops in the United States. Among them, I had the opportunity to visit a broccoli farm as a vegetable grower.

We were told that in recent years, the quality of broccoli has been deteriorating due to high-temperature problems, especially in the summer. With the temperature continuing to rise, they felt that there was a limit to what they could produce under the current environment, and they were interested in Skeepon as a countermeasure. They are interested in Skeepon as a countermeasure. Specifically, they hope that Skeepon will improve yield by increasing the plant’s own ability to withstand high temperatures.

Contributing to water conservation with Skeepon. The cost savings associated with water conservation is the appeal of Skeepon.

We also asked about the water situation for cultivation. They were concerned about the possibility of water shortage on their broccoli farm in the future due to climate change.

When we explained to them that Skeepon would reduce the number of times they had to water their crops and that they could expect to save money as a result, they became even more attracted to the product. From this, we were able to understand the need for Skeepon as a water-saving material.

Responding to the deterioration of quality of export crops, we want to contribute to the food problem by maintaining the freshness of Skeepon.

In addition, about half of the broccoli produced at this farm is exported outside the U.S., and the quality of the broccoli deteriorates during transportation. A certain amount of broccoli is discarded at the time of delivery.

We believe that this kind of quality deterioration and disposal is a serious issue from the perspective of the SDGs. One of our visions is to solve the global food problem, and we would like to contribute to solving the problem of food waste. As a stepping stone to this goal, we felt it was necessary to ensure the effectiveness of Skeepon in maintaining freshness during transportation by applying it before harvest.
